Saints Rally for 5-2 Win over Minnesota-Morris

MORRIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica men's soccer (17-2, 13-0 UMAC) defeated the University of Minnesota-Morris (11-5-2, 9-2-2 UMAC) 5-2 Friday afternoon sweeping the season series against the Cougars.
 
The first half of soccer between Minnesota-Morris and St. Scholastica was a high scoring affair. Devin Chuba opened the scoring for the Cougars in the fifth minute with a header goal that snuck just inside the post. The goal was Chuba's fifth of the season and the assists on the play went to Michael Schuweiler and Mitchell Boster.
 
In the 16th minute Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) leveled the score at 1-1 for CSS with his 18th goal of the year from Andrew Xotta-Dickson (Adelaide, South Australia/Prince Alfred College (Anoka Ramsey CC)). Then in the 31st minute Shawayne Folkes (Toronto, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) put the Saints ahead 2-1 with a fantastic individual effort, beating the keeper with a chipped shot for his 13th goal of the season.
 
CSS fought to build on their lead before the end of the first half, totaling 17 shots, but the Cougars were able to keep the score 2-1 heading into the second period.
 
In the second half St. Scholastica continued to fill up the stat sheet scoring three unanswered goals to pull away from Minnesota-Morris. Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) made it 3-1 for CSS in the 55th minute with a powerful strike from well outside the 18-yard box that found netting just under the cross bar. The goal was Morgan's ninth of the season and Andrew Xotta-Dickson (Adelaide, South Australia/Prince Alfred College (Anoka Ramsey CC)) picked up his second assist of the game on the play.
 
Kyle Farrar (Sevenoaks, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) added his second goal of the game in the 69th minute after a defensive miscue by the Cougars resulted in a wide open net for Farrar to shoot at. The goal marks Farrar's 19th of the season.
 
In the 71st minute St. Scholastica was able to convert off a corner kick to make the score 5-1. Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) headed home an Andrew Xotta-Dickson (Adelaide, South Australia/Prince Alfred College (Anoka Ramsey CC)) cross for his 19th goal of the year and Xotta-Dickson's third assist of the game.
 
With just a minute left to play, Minnesota-Morris would get the final goal of the match after a penalty kick was awarded. Shingo Yamane stepped up to the penalty spot for the Cougars and buried his shot into the upper corner to cut the Saints lead to 5-2. The goal was Yamane's eighth of the season.
 
Cougars' goalkeeper Cody Christ made a season-high 10 saves in the loss to CSS. Minnesota-Morris had won seven in row before losing to St. Scholastica. The Cougars only two UMAC losses this season have come against the Saints.
 
St. Scholastica will conclude its regular season Saturday in New Ulm, Minnesota as they take on Martin Luther College at noon.
