DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team will be at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis on Saturday when takes on Hamline University and Bethel University to open the 2014 season.

St. Scholastica Saints
2013 Record: 20-8, 10-0 UMAC

-The Saints won their 17th consecutive UMAC regular season title in 2013 and also captured its second straight UMAC Tournament championship (13th overall).
-The Saints set a program record with 20 victories and won a program-best 123 singles matches and 58 doubles matches. The .707 singles winning percentage was also a program record.
-
Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College),
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)),
Nick Lambrecht (Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS (Minn.-Duluth)),
Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and
Kolin Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) were all named to the all-conference team. All return this season with the exception of Dean.
-Lambrecht excelled on-and-off the court. He not only set a single-season program record with 19 victories, but he also became the first tennis player to be named a Capital One Academic All-American, garnering third team honors.
- Fontana also tied the old program record for singles wins in a season.
-That record was originally held by Jacob Engelstad. Jacob's brother,
Logan Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS), joins the team this season and is believed to be every bit as good as his older brother. Another freshman,
Alex Mihailov (Bucharest, Romania/Gheorghe Sincai National College), is also expected to make an instant impact this season.

Hamline University Pipers
2013 Record: 3-16, 0-9 MIAC

-The Pipers went winless in conference play last season.
-Two of their three wins came against UMAC schools.
-The Pipers will have to replace David Croonquist, who had nine wins at the No. 1 spot. No other Piper had more than five wins.
Series History: (CSS is 3-8 vs. Hamline)
-The Saints snapped a five-match losing streak to the Pipers last season, winning 7-2.
-CSS has never beaten Hamline away from Duluth. |

Bethel University Royals
Record: 6-10, 3-6 MIAC
Head Coach: Drew Fernelius |
-The Royals will have to replace top players Tucker Morris and Reggie Ronning from last year. Both Morris and Ronning were All-MIAC performers.
-Bethel won its final two matches last season, defeating Hamline and Concordia College-Moorhead.
