Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FREEPORT, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team swept Bethany Lutheran College by scores of 3-1 and 6-2 on Sunday to close out the regular season and capture the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) title.

The Saints have won the conference regular season title every year since 1997. The Saints finish unbeaten in league play for the second straight year and have won 46 straight UMAC regular season games.

Game one saw the Vikings (12-12, 8-2 UMAC) jump out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a fielder's choice groundout. The Saints, who were held hitless for the first two innings, tied the contest in the third when Kyle Flagstad (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) hit a RBI single to score Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS).

CSS would load the bases with no one out in the fourth, but would come away with nothing in the inning. However, the Saints bounced back in the fifth when Jake Casareto (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) had an infield single and Flagstad scored all the way from second to make it 2-1.

Meanwhile, Mickie Keuning (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Angelo State)) was cruising on the mound. Keuning did not allow hit from one out in the second until with two outs in the eighth. Keuning struck out a career-high 11 strikeouts and went a career-best 7.2 innings.

The Saints added insurance in the eighth on a Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ) sacrifice fly that scored Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) to make it 3-1.Thomas Rogers (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS ) sealed the deal in the ninth with his seventh save of the season as the Saints prevailed 3-1.

Flagstad had two of CSS's six hits in the victory. The Vikings were only able to muster three hits. Keuning earned his fourth victory of the season.

St. Scholastica jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings in game two. Jordan O'Neill (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) and Flagstad scored off a Bethany error and Olson scored on another BLC error later in the inning.

After a Bethany solo home run in the third made the score 3-1, the Saints got that run back in the fourth when Getchell singled in Jon Kusch (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS ) to make it 4-1.

The Vikings hit another solo home run in the fifth, but CSS once again answered in the bottom frame when Casareto singled in Flagstad to make it 5-2.

In the seventh, Flagstad led off the inning with a walk. He then proceeded to steal second, then steal third and score on a catcher's throwing error to make it 6-2. The Saints bullpen held it from there to complete the sweep by a 6-2 score.

Zack Farmer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) picked up the win in relief, going 1.1 innings. Getchell started for the Saints and went 4.2 innings, struck out two and scattered four hits. Daniel Wood (Canyon, Minn./South Ridge HS ) and Kyle Jensen (Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake HS) threw three innings of scoreless relief. Flagstad was the only Saint with a pair of hits again. Casareto extended his hitting streak to 19 games.

The Saints (24-9, 14-0 UMAC) will now host the UMAC Tournament starting on Thursday at Wade Stadium. The Saints' first round opponent has not been set, but game time will be 1 p.m. Thursday.
