Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FREEPORT, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team scored 55 runs in 12 innings as the Saints easily defeated the Rams in both games of the doubleheader Friday afternoon. CSS won 14-0 in in the first contest and racked up an incredible 41 runs in the second contest to win 41-2. Both games lasted seven innings.

In the first game, the Saints jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead as Kyle Flagstad (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) knocked in Jordan O'Neill (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) on a groundout to second and Jake Casareto (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) crossed the plate on a wild pitch later in the inning. After blanking NCU in the top of the second, CSS would add another three runs to boost their lead to 5-0.  John Hietpas (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS ) scored on a Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ) double and Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) would knock in Getchell with a single. Later, Flagstad would later groundout again to second for his second RBI of the day. CSS would add a run in the fourth and another six in the fifth to put the final score at 14-0.

David Vogelgesang (Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) picked up the win for the Saints, going five strong innings and giving up just two hits. Alex Trierweiler (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall ) would finish the last two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three. Gary Ramos picked up the loss for the Rams, going six innings and giving up 14 hits and 14 runs.

The Saints wasted no time getting the hit parade started in the second game, piling up 27 hits and 41 runs in just six innings. The 41 runs broke a program record for runs scored in a game in program history.

CSS took advantage of poor fielding, scored six runs in the first and added another five in the second to quickly break the game open at 11-0. The third inning boosted the CSS lead to 14-0, and the Rams got on the board for the first time of the afternoon, scoring two to bring the score to 14-2.

However, the Saints piled up an incredible 24 runs on 16 hits in the fourth inning to destroy any chance of a Rams comeback. The 24 runs tied a NCAA Division III record for runs in an inning. Also in that historic inning, the Saints set a NCAA Division III record with 16 hits. Jon Kusch (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS ) became the 13th player in Division III history to record three hits in an inning.

Another three runs would cross the plate for CSS in the fifth as well to bring the score to the lopsided 41-2 final. The Saints had five doubles, a triple, a homer and 17 stolen bases in the contest.  The 17 stolen bases also set a new program record.

Gary Ramos picked up his second loss of the afternoon for the Rams, going one inning and giving up six runs, only one of which was earned. Andy Davis (Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell HS ) picked up the win for the Saints, going four innings and allowing two runs and striking out five.

The Saints (22-9, 12-0 UMAC) look to finish the season perfect in conference play and seize the UMAC regular season title tomorrow afternoon as their final doubleheader of the regular season comes against Bethany Lutheran. Bethany Lutheran is also undefeated in conference play.
