Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WHITEWATER, Wis. (csssaints.com) – For the third straight year, the St. Scholastica baseball team was amongst the final three teams at a NCAA Division III Regional, with one win to open Friday, but falling in the nightcap to end its season.

CSS 3, #5 UW-Whitewater 2 (F/10)
The Saints began the day by playing the host, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, in an elimination game. The Warhawks were the regular season champion of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and are ranked fifth by D3baseball.com.

CSS got the first run of the day in the bottom of the third inning with a two-out rally. After two quick outs, Andy Schwantes (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley HS (Minn.-Duluth)) reached on a single. Tyler Henderson (Chisago Lakes, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) followed with another single to put runners at first and second. Jordan O'Neill (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) hit a third straight single through the right side, which scored Schwantes.

The Warhawks evened the score at 1-1 in the fourth when the Saints committed a two-out error, which allowed a run to score. Whitewater threatened again in the fifth loading the bases with one out. CSS starter Mickie Keuning (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Angelo State)) would get a groundball and the runner would be forced out at home plate. Keuning then got a fly out to end the inning and strand the bases loaded.

The Saints regained the lead in the bottom frame as Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) singled and then stole second. Kyle Jensen (Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake HS) would bring Colvard in on a single to make it 2-1. The lead was short-lived as the Warhawks got a two-out rally in the sixth and a RBI single down the left field line made it 2-2.

Both teams would strand runners at second base in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings as the Saints and Warhawks went to extra innings.

Thomas Rogers (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS ), who entered the game in relief of Keuning in the ninth, got into a bit trouble in the 10th as the Warhawks had a runner on third with two outs. However, Rogers would get a fly out to get out of the jam.

In the bottom of the 10th, Jensen was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Jensen would then be replaced by pinch runner Jesse Heaton (Heyworth, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic HS ). Kyle Flagstad (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) would also get hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second with no outs. After a fielder's choice ground out by Jake Casareto (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) put runners on the corners with one out, Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) hit a fly ball to left, which resulted in a diving catch, Heaton tagged and scored the game-winning run to make the final score 3-2 CSS.

The victory over Whitewater was the first against Warhawks in the postseason in program history.

Rogers earned his first win of the season in relief. Keuning had another great starting pitching performance by a CSS pitcher, going eight innings, allowing only one earned run and scattered five hits. Jensen was 2-for-4 to lead the offense.

CSS 2, #16 UW-Stevens Point 8
With the victory the Saints advanced to play the lone undefeated team left in the tournament, 16th-ranked ranked UW-Stevens Point.

The Pointers (38-9) scored first in the nightcap with a two-out rally in the bottom of the first to make it 1-0 after one. UWSP took advantage of a CSS error in the bottom of the third inning with a one out RBI single to make it 2-0.

The Saints cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth when Flagstad scored on a Schwantes groundout to make it 2-1.

The score remained that way until the bottom of the seventh when Pointers opened up some breathing room with a three-run inning to make it 5-1. The Saints would get one run back in the top of the eighth as Flagstad drove in Jordan O'Neill (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) with a RBI single. CSS would have the bases loaded in that inning, but would leave them stranded.

The Pointers added three more insurance runs in the eighth to make the final score 8-2.

Freshman Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ) pitched well for the Saints going 6.1 innings and allowed only five hits, but picked up the loss.

The Saints season will end with a 29-11 record and the team will say goodbye to 15 seniors. For future Saints baseball information, keep checking csssaints.com.
