Men’s Tennis Records Third Straight Shutout Win

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (csssaints.com) – For the third straight match, the St. Scholastica men's tennis team shut out its opponent, defeating the University of Minnesota Morris 9-0 on Sunday at Gold's Gym.

Today's match was the fifth for the team in the last three days. The Saints went 4-1 with four shutouts over the weekend. CSS's lone loss came against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in non-conference action on Friday.

The Saints did not lose a single game in doubles action. The No. 1 duo of Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) and Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS), the No. 2 team of Kolin Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) and Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and the No. 3 tandem of Guthrie Coughlin (Staples, Minn./Staples-Motley HS) and Alex Nagle (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) all won 8-0.

In singles action, Stainer won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. Combs came out on top at the No. 2 spot by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Dean prevailed at the No. 3 spot 6-0, 6-2.

Coughlin at No. 4, Bates at No. 5 and Nagle at No. 6 all blanked their opponents by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

The Saints (14-7, 6-0 UMAC) will have next weekend off and will be in action next on Saturday, April 20th at home against Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther.
