Box Score 2 STEVENS POINT, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team dropped both games of its doubleheader at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday, dropping game one 10-4 and game two by a score of 8-4.
The Saints jumped out to an early lead in game one as
Jake Casareto (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) reached on an error, scoring
Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) from third base. However, Stevens Point would respond with two unanswered runs in each of the first three innings. First baseman Sean Gerber hit a two-run homer to center in the bottom of the first, and a solo shot to left in the third inning. Not to be outdone, Bryton Guckenberg hit a solo shot of his own to left center in the third and tallied another solo home run in the seventh as well.
The Saints attempted to rally in the top of the sixth as
Kyle Flagstad (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) drove in Colvard with a single to left and advanced to second on a throwing error. He quickly crossed the plate as Casareto doubled to right center. Casareto would later score on a passed ball, putting the score at 6-4 in favor of Stevens Point.
However, the Pointers would respond again as they scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings. Ryan Schilter drove in a pair with a double down the left field line in the sixth, and the Gukenberg homer paired with a double by Riley Spetz drove in the pair of seventh inning runs, putting the score to the final of 10-4.

Andy Davis (Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell HS ) picked up the loss, giving up eight hits and six earned runs in five innings. The Pointers' Brad Stroik was credited with the win, going six innings and giving up just two earned runs.
In the second game, Stevens Point jumped out to an early 3-0 lead as the Saints committed a pair of throwing errors. The Saints picked up a run in the third as Colvard hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring
John Hietpas (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS ). The Pointers would answer with a pair of runs in both the third and fourth innings as Spetz hit a two-run single to center in the third and Gerber went yard in the fourth, scoring Schilter.
The Saints attempted to rally in the fifth, scoring three runs to put the score at 7-4. John Kusch scored off of an RBI single by Colvard and a two-RBI single by
Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ) scored Hietpas and
Andy Schwantes (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley HS (Minn.-Duluth)).
However, the rally would fall short, as the Saints did not score for the rest of the afternoon. In the seventh, Gerber homered for the fourth time in the doubleheader, putting the final at 8-4.
Kyle Jensen (Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake HS) picked up the loss for the Saints, giving up eight hits and seven runs in just four innings.
With the Crown College doubleheader postponed tomorrow, the Saints (12-7) look to rebound next weekend, as the Saints are scheduled for a doubleheader against Martin Luther College in New Ulm this upcoming Friday.
