DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team will travel to face the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in a battle of Midwest regional rivals on Saturday.

  • UWSP is coming off of a sweep of UW-Stout on Wednesday and the previous week battled perennial power UW-Whitewater to a 19-inning affair in a 5-4 victory.
  • The Pointers sit in second place in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).
  • The Pointers have six players batting above .333 on the year and as a team hit for .328 from the plate.
  • The UWSP pitching staff currently holds a 3.98 ERA, but holds opponents to a .237 batting average.
  • Jacob Herbst leads the staff with 41 strikeouts on the year.
  • The Pointer defense has a .967 fielding percentage.

Series History: (CSS is 5-8 vs. UW-Stevens Point)
  • The last meeting between the teams was in the 2011 NCAA Regional Tournament as the No. 6 ranked Pointers were upset by the Saints 3-2.  CSS's Kyle Jensen (Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake HS) earned the win, pitching 7.2 innings allowing only one earned run.
  • The will be the first time the two program meet outside of postseason action since 2007 in the Metrodome, 7-6 Pointers victory.
