Box Score 2 MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team met up with the UW-LaCrosse Eagles in the HHH Metrodome Thursday afternoon in a doubleheader battle featuring two teams receiving votes on the D3baseball.com Top 25 poll. The Saints were victorious in game one by a score of 3-2, but fell in game two by a score of 7-3.
In game one the Saints found the scoreboard first in the second inning off of a pair of two-out RBI singles by
Jordan O'Neill (Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) and
Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ).
Jake Casareto (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) and
Tyler Henderson (Chisago Lakes, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) would score for CSS on the hits.
Casareto would score again in the sixth inning off of an
Andy Schwantes (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley HS (Minn.-Duluth)) single to left center to put the Saints up 3-0.
UW-LaCrosse would make the game interesting in the bottom of the eighth inning plating two runs, one off of a wild pitch and the other off of a RBI-single.
The Saints would hold off the Eagles in the final inning and take game one by a score of 3-2.
CSS finished game one with 10 hits, but did commit three errors on defense.
Kyle Jensen (Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake HS) picked up the win for the Saints, pitching seven solid innings while scattering four hits and fanning three Eagle batters.
Thomas Rogers (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS ) earned the save for the Saints, his fifth of the year.
Game two of the doubleheader matchup saw the Saints go up 2-0 early when
Kyle Flagstad (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) doubled down the right field line to score
Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) and
Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS).
After five scoreless innings the Eagles tacked on two runs in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh to take a 4-2 lead into the final two innings.
In the bottom of the eighth inning Olson doubled to right field to score Colvard to bring the Saints within one run at 4-3. The Eagles would respond in the top of the ninth inning scoring three runs to put the Eagles up 7-3. The Saints would strikeout twice and groundout to end the game, losing 7-3.
The Saints would only muster three hits in game two and were struck out 11 times. CSS would commit two errors on defense, the same as UW-LaCrosse (7-5).
Andy Davis (Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell HS ) pitched five innings for CSS allowing three hits and two earned runs.
Mickie Keuning (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Angelo State)) took the loss for the Saints giving up three hits and two earned runs, despite striking out three batters.
St. Scholastica (9-4, 0-0 UMAC) was scheduled to face Crown College tomorrow, but due to poor field conditions, that doubleheader matchup has been postponed to a later date. Tune into csssaints.com for the latest news on the next matchup for the Saints.
