DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team only lost two games out of 96 as the Saints swept the North Central University Rams in both teams' Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opener. The matches were held at Arrowhead Tennis Center.
In singles play, CSS's
Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College),
Nick Lambrecht (Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS (Minn.-Duluth)),
Dylan Kelly (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South HS),
Kolin Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS),
Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)), and
Guthrie Coughlin (Staples, Minn./Staples-Motley HS) each swept their matches 6-0, 6-0.
The same was true in doubles play as the No. 1 pair of Stainer/
James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) swept their match 8-0. The No. 2 matchup featuring
Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and
Alex Nagle (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) saw them win their match 8-2. The No. 3 doubles matchup of
Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and
Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) came away victorious by a score 8-0.
It was North Central's (0-1, 0-1 UMAC) first matchup of the 2013 season.
CSS (9-6, 1-0 UMAC) will travel to Northwestern College next Thursday in UMAC action. The Saints and Eagles are due to clash at a TBA time. Tune into csssaints.com for start time of these matches as well as updates.
