Box Score 2 VERO BEACH, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team arrived in Florida with a 2-2 record and left with an 8-3 mark after sweeping Richard Stockton (N.J.) on Saturday by scores of 10-7 ad 4-3.
If you recall, last year Richard Stockton became the first team to sweep the Saints in a doubleheader down in Florida in program history.
CSS got off to a quick start in game one. The first three Saints got on base with
Kyle Flagstad (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) driving in
Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) to make it 1-0.
Jesse Heaton (Heyworth, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic HS ) later scored on a
Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) single and Flagstad scored on an error to make it 3-0 after a half inning.
Flagstad extended the lead to 5-0 in the top of the second with a two-run double.
Andy Schwantes (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley HS (Minn.-Duluth)) and
David Vogelgesang (Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) scored runs in the third to make it 7-0.
Richard Stockton struck for four runs in the bottom of the third to make it 7-4. The Saints got two of those runs back in the fourth with a Flagstad RBI single and an Olson sacrifice fly to make it 9-4. The Ospreys left the bases loaded again in the bottom frame.
After both teams exchanged runs, the Ospreys scored two in the bottom of the sixth to make it 10-7. However,
Thomas Rogers (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS ) shut the door in the seventh for his fourth save of the season to give the Saints the 10-7 victory.
Jake Nystrom (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) earned the win for the Saints. Flagstad finished 4-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Colvard also had three hits.
In game two, CSS received another three-run first inning to jump up on the Ospreys. Flagstad continued to swing a hot bat as he hit a two-run triple and then scored on a wild pitch.
Richard Stockton scored one run in the second, third and fourth innings to tie the game at 3-3.
Kyle Jensen (Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake HS) then led off the fourth with a home run over the left field wall to put the Saints back ahead at 4-3. After two solid innings from
Jake Snyder (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) on the mound, Jensen entered in the sixth and retired all six hitters he faced to earn the save as the Saints prevailed 4-3.
Snyder earned the win in two innings of relief, striking out two and not allowing a hit. Five different Saints recorded one hit, while the Ospreys had nine hits for the game. Richard Stockton falls to 9-7 with the two losses.
The Saints (8-3) will return to action in the Midwest next weekend when it travels to face Concordia University-Chicago for a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday. Listen to all of the action live on Saints Sports Net.
