Men’s Tennis Off to Best Start in Program History

MEQUON, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team is 6-0 for the first time in program history after defeating Concordia University (Wis.) 6-3 late Friday night.

CSS won two of the three doubles matches as the No. 2 team of James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) and Kolin Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) won 8-5. The No. 3 team of Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) came out on top 8-2.

In singles action, Nick Lambrecht (Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS (Minn.-Duluth)) remained unbeaten this season with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 3 spot. Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) was up a set at No. 4 when his opponent retired to give CSS the win. Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) also remained undefeated this season with a 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot. The final winner on the night was Dean at the No. 6 spot by scores of 6-0, 6-1.

The Saints will play both the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Edgewood College tomorrow in Madison. CSS will open with UW-La Crosse at 4 p.m. at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
