Men’s Tennis Matches Program’s Best Ever Start

FARGO, N.D. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team improved to 5-0 for just the second time in program history on Sunday night defeating Concordia College-Moorhead 8-1.

The Saints swept doubles play with the No. 1 team of James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) and Kolin Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) winning 8-6. The No. 2 tandem of Dylan Kelly (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South HS) and Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) won in a tiebreaker 9-8 (7-5). The No. 3 team of Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) also won by an 8-6 score.

In singles action, Mack prevailed in a third set super-breaker at the No. 1 spot 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), (10-8). Nick Lambrecht (Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS (Minn.-Duluth)) came out on top at No. 3 by scores of 6-1, 6-1. Kelly earned the “W” at the No. 4 spot 7-5, 6-1.

Mike Fontana (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS (Gustavus Adolphus)) was victorious at the No. 5 by scores of 6-3, 6-4. Dean pulled out the final singles win at the No. 6 spot 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.

The Saints will be in action next in a couple of weeks when they make the trek to southern Wisconsin to face Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday, March 1st.
