Men’s Tennis Improves to 3-0

WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team defeated Simpson College (Iowa) 9-0 at the Lifetime Fitness Center in White Bear Lake in a late Saturday night matchup.

The Storm, who had lost to Hamline University earlier in the day, and the Saints were meeting for the first-time ever.

CSS would have little trouble this evening against Simpson, winning every match in straight sets. The Saints are 3-0 for the first time since the 2003 season.

In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Josh Stainer (Portsmouth, England/South Downs College) and Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) won 8-2. Stainer also was victorious at No. 1 singles by scores of 6-3, 6-1. Combs won at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-1.

The No. 2 duo of James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) and Kolin Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) shut out their opponents 8-0. Mack came out on top at No. 2 singles as well 6-2, 6-1. Dean took care of business at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-2.

The No. 3 tandem of Dylan Kelly (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South HS) and Alex Nagle (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS) won at No. 3 doubles 8-2. Kelly would blank his opponent at No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-0. The final winner on the day did the same thing at No. 4 singles as Nick Lambrecht (Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS (Minn.-Duluth)) won 6-0, 6-0.

A reminder that Sunday's matches at Concordia College-Moorhead have been postponed and are rescheduled for Sunday, February 17th.
