DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – For the second straight year, the St. Scholastica men's basketball team will partake in the Merrill Thompson Tip-Off Classic, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Superior this weekend.
Game Schedule:
Saturday vs. Concordia (Minn.) – 5:30 p.m.
Sunday vs. UW-Superior/Finlandia – 3/5 p.m.
- The Saints are still looking for their first win of the season after coming off an 86-72 loss on Monday to cross-bridge rival UW-Superior.
Jake Naslund (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) continued his good play as of late by scoring 17 points to lead the Saints.

Steve Golobich (Mountain Iron, Minn./Mountain Iron-Buhl HS (Mesabi Range CC)) had 11 points of his own in Monday's loss. He has played well lately, scoring double-digit points in back-to-back games.
- The Saints' shooting woes continued in Monday's game, shooting just 35 percent from the field, including 24 percent from the three point line. The struggles also continued at the free throw line, as the team shot only 50 percent in the game.
- The Saints are just 57 percent from the free throw line this season and shot over 44 percent from the floor only once.
- CSS had more offensive rebounds (19) than defensive rebounds on Monday (16).
- The defense showed more intensity in its pressure, forcing Superior into 29 turnovers in Monday's loss.

Concordia College-Moorhead Cobbers

- The Cobbers are going into this weekend's tournament coming off a loss to Minnesota State-Moorhead by a score of 102-55. The team's other game was a 63-39 win over UMAC favorite Minnesota-Morris.
- Austin Hawkins leads the team in points, despite coming off the bench, with a 10.5 average. He also is tied for the team lead in rebounds with Jordan Bolger with six and a half per game.
- Bolger is also second on the team in scoring with a 10 point average.
- Brandon Giese leads the team in assists averaging five a game.
- The Cobbers take pretty good care of the basketball, committing only 11.5 turnovers a game.

Finlandia University Lions

- The Lions are coming off of back-to-back losses at the UW-Oshkosh Tournament last weekend. The Lions only win came against Mayville State, who the Saints played their first game against this season.
- The team has four players averaging double figure points, led by Dominic Morrow's 16.3 average per game. Moore is followed by Keith Arnold's 12.6, Brandon Robinson's 10.1, and Matt Strong's 10 point averages respectively.
- Morrow is shooting fairly well on the season so far with a 56 percent field goal percentage. He also leads the team in rebounds averaging around six boards a game.
- Strong is shooting well too, having a 48 percent 3-point field goal percentage.
- The defense has allowed 92 points per game and have been outscored by an average of 24 points.
- The offense has some trouble taking care of the basketball, committing 22.4 turnovers a game.

University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets

- The Yellowjackets open the tournament taking on Finlandia on Friday night. Superior's last game was an 86-72 victory against the Saints.
- Jarrod Peterson has been playing very well, posting 32 points in back-to-back games. In the win against the Saints, Peterson went a perfect 17 for 17 from the free throw line. He is averaging 23 points a game to lead the team.
- Seven-footer Bronson Byrne is second on the team with a 13 point per game average. He also leads the team in rebounds, grabbing an average of 7.3 boards a game. He is the last line of defense as well with three blocks per game.
- As a team, the Yellowjackets have blocked six shots a game and have a plus 3.3 rebounding margin.
