Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team fell to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Tuesday night 77-59 at the Reif Gymnasium, in which the Saints shot 39 percent from the field and made only 2-of-20 3-point attempts.
The Saints and Blugolds remained tight to begin the first half until, with 11:05 remaining in the first half and the score 14-13 in favor of Eau Claire, the Blugolds rattled off 13 straight points in the next four minutes to jump out to a 27-13 lead.
The Saints remained down double digits for the remainder of the half until
Julius Johnson (Minneapolis, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) stole the ball and took it down the court for a layup with two seconds left in the half to make the score 40-31 in favor of the Blugolds going into halftime.
CSS shot 40-percent from the field in the half, while the Blugolds shot 43 percent. The Saints 0-for-9 from beyond the arc and were out-rebounded 29-19.
The Saints would come back with some fire to start the second half going on a 7-2 run in the first 3:30 of the half highlighted by a
LaMonte Hall (Minneapolis, Minn./DeLaSalle HS (Saint Mary’s)) 3-pointer which made the score 42-38 Eau Claire.
The Blugolds would quickly respond with an 18-6 run of their own to bring the lead back up to 16 points and the score 60-44.
The Saints could not cut down the lead smaller than nine points after that point with
Jake Naslund (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) making a jumper to make the score 65-56 Eau Claire with just under three minutes remaining.
Eau Claire would ice the game going 10-of-10 from the free throw line in the last 1:09 of the game to set the final score at 77-59.
The Blugolds shot 21-of-28 from the line on the night while the Saints shot just 7-of-18.
Trevor Morlock (Rogers, Minn./Rogers HS (Minn., Crookston)) led the Saints in scoring with 21 points on the night, along with 10 rebounds to complete the double-double, while teammate
Jake Naslund (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) finished with 10 points. Lewis Mau led for Blugolds in double-figures with 26 points.
The Saints (0-3) will next face Division II's Bemidji State University Saturday in Bemidji with that game scheduled to tip off at 4 p.m.
