DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team made quick work of Martin Luther College on Saturday, defeating the Knights 9-0 in the Burns Wellness Fieldhouse.
Seniors
Jacob Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and
Kevin Hilpert (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles 8-4. Engelstad then won at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-1 and Hilpert at the No. 3 spot 6-1, 6-0.
The No. 2 doubles team of
James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) and
Kolin Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) won 8-1. That was the same result for the No. 3 team of
Tom Schneuer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) and
Cody Mauston (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS).
Dylan Kelly (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South HS) won at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-1.
Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) blanked his opponent at the No. 4 spot 6-0, 6-0.
Nick Lind (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) came out on top at No. 5 by scores of 6-0, 6-4. The final winner on the day was
Mike Aro (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) at the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-1. The Knights fall to 2-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
The Saints (14-7, 8-0 UMAC) will host the University of Minnesota Morris tomorrow at noon. The match will either take place at Central High School or in the Burns Wellness Fieldhouse, weather pending.
