Fury of Runs Powers Baseball in Battle of the Saints

| By:
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The CSS baseball completed the sweep of the Presentation Saints winning game one 13-5 and 19-1 in Aberdeen on Saturday afternoon.

The victories complete the sweep of Presentation (11-21, 7-9 UMAC) and St. Scholastica is still undefeated in conference play.

CSS got up early in game one scoring three runs in each of the first three innings including a two-run home run by Jesse Heaton (Heyworth, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic HS ) and the Saints were up 9-0.

Kyle Moody (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) followed up in the next inning with a solo home run of his own.  Tom Juberian (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) added an RBI single and St. Scholastica went up 11-0.

Presentation got three runs back in the fourth inning to cut the lead to eight, but St. Scholastica's Kyle Flagstad (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) got an RBI-double and a solo home run in the fifth and seventh innings respectively to stretch the lead back to nine.

Presentation got two runs in the bottom of the seventh but it wasn't enough as CSS took game one 13-5.

Ben Grieger (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock HS) got the win allowing just one earned run in 3 2/3 innings of work and is now 3-0.

The offense continued for CSS in game two as the Saints scored 11 runs in the second and third innings.  Heaton and Moody both had two more RBIs in the second and St. Scholastica went up 11-0 after three innings.

After CSS and PC exchanged runs in the fourth inning, Jake Casareto (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) and Tom Juberian (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) hit back to back home runs in the sixth to put St. Scholastica up 14-1.

Back-to-back-to-back bases loaded walks got CSS three more runs in the seventh before Neal Walsh (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS ) knocked in two runs with an RBI-single to make it 19-1.

The CSS defense would hold strong in the bottom of the inning give the Saints 19-1 victory to complete the sweep.

Jake Nystrom (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) allowed just one run and struck out eight to earn the win as his record improves to 5-3.

Heaton had a big day at the plate going 4-8 with a home run, double and four RBIs.  Flagstad ended the day 4-7 with a home run, two doubles and five RBIs and Moody was 4-9 with a home run, double and five RBIs.

The Saints (24-9, 15-0 UMAC) return home next weekend for a three-series against the Crown College Storm (1-16, 1-12 UMAC) at Wade Stadium.  Friday's game begins at 6 p.m. and Saturday's doubleheader will begin at noon.
