Northland LumberJacks (5-11, 2-1 UMAC)
The LumberJacks opened conference play over the weekend taking two out of three games at Martin Luther College … The 'Jacks won the first game 10-4 and then settled for a split in Saturday's doubleheader … In non-conference play, Northland has victories over Rivier College, Cazenovia College and the Milwaukee School of Engineering … The LumberJacks have been picked to finish sixth in the conference this season, according to the preseason coaches' poll … With only one senior and two returning juniors, Northland will still be very young and inexperienced … The transfer of the Jacks' starting shortstop and leadoff hitter, Casey Herr, will leave a huge void both in the field and at the top of the order that will be difficult for second year head coach Stein Rear to fill … Almost the entire Northland pitching staff returns including the team's top four starters from 2011 along with some good young freshman arms … Offensively, Northland returns a good amount of their lineup including five players who started 30 or more games in 2011 … Peter Aerts has led the team so far this season at the plate with a .424 batting average … Travis Hendrickson, Colin Moberly and Ryan Johnson have 13, 12 and 10 RBIs, respectively … Kyle Strom has two wins on the mound and a team-high 15 strikeouts.
