Men’s Tennis Falls to Blugolds

DULUTH, Minn. – In its first match at home in two months, the St. Scholastica men's tennis team fell to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 8-1 on Friday afternoon at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.

The lone win on the day for the Saints came at No. 2 doubles as the team of Kolin Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) and James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) won in a tiebreaker 9-8 (10-8). Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) and Kevin Hilpert (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) also lost in a close match at No. 3 doubles 8-6. The Saints lost all six singles matches in straight sets. The Blugolds improve to 15-7 overall with the win.

The Saints (10-7) will be busy tomorrow playing two dual matches, starting with North Central University at 11 a.m. and then Bethany Lutheran College around 2 p.m. All of the matches are scheduled to take place at Duluth's Central High School. CSS is just one win away from its 100th consecutive conference dual match victory and Jacob Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) is one singles win away from breaking the program's all-time record.
