Men’s Tennis Completes a Second Perfect Weekend

MORRIS, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team achieved its fourth consecutive 9-0 victory on Sunday, defeating the University of Minnesota-Morris in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference dual match.

Jacob Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) won in both singles and doubles play to give him 102 overall wins in his career, just two shy of the program record. At No. 1 singles, Engelstad won 6-1, 6-1 for his 54th career singles victory, which ties Kyle Hawley for the program record. He teamed up with Brian Lindberg (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) to win at No. 1 doubles 8-1.

Lindberg would also win in singles play at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 6-1. James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) and Kolin Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) came out on top at No. 2 doubles 8-0. Mack blanked his singles opponent at the No. 3 spot 6-0, 6-0. That would be the same score for Kevin Hilpert (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) at No. 4.

At No. 3 doubles, the team of Tom Schneuer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) and Nick Lind (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) won 8-1. Nick Lambrecht (Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS (Minn.-Duluth)) won at No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-0 and Mike Aro (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) won at No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-1 for his first win of the season. The Cougars fall to 0-2 and 0-1 in the UMAC.

The Saints (10-6, 4-0 UMAC) will be off next week and will be in action next on Friday, April 13th when they are back in Duluth for the first time since mid-February to take on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in a non-conference dual match.
