Men’s Tennis Too Much for Knights

NEW ULM, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team defeated Martin Luther College on Saturday 9-0 in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup.

In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Jacob Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and Dylan Kelly (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South HS) won 8-3. The No. 2 duo of Kolin Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) and James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) also won 8-3. Finally, the No. 3 team of Tom Schneuer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) and Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) came out on top 8-2.

In singles play, Engelstad won at the No. 1 spot 6-3, 6-1. The win for Engelstad was his 100th overall (singles and doubles) in his career, just the second Saints player to achieve that milestone.

Mack was the other CSS player to claim victories in both doubles and singles, winning at the No. 3 spot 6-0, 6-1. Kevin Hilpert (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) at No. 4 won by the same 6-0, 6-1 scores and Nick Lambrecht (Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS (Minn.-Duluth)) at No. 5 won 6-1, 6-1.

Brian Lindberg (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) won at the No. 2 spot 6-1, 6-3 and Nick Lind (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) won at No. 6 6-1, 6-0. The Saints have now won 98 consecutive UMAC dual matches. The Knights fall to 0-5 overall.

The Saints (9-6, 3-0 UMAC) will face the University of Minnesota-Morris tomorrow at noon.
