PREVIEW: Baseball Heads Back to Metrodome for Doubleheader with Eagles

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica baseball team will travel to the Metrodome for the third-and-final time this year to face off with the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Eagles for a doubleheader on Friday.

The Saints are coming off of their annual spring break trip to Florida where they went 3-3 including a 3-2 victory over the 13th ranked Keystone College Giants.

St. Scholastica Saints (6-8)
The Saints started off the season slow dropping five of their first six games, but have a 5-3 record since then to inch closer to .500 … After beating the 13th ranked Giants of Keystone College and coming just a couple runs short of a winning record in Florida the Saints look to get back to .500 this weekend … The Saints have been led offensively this season by Kyle Jensen (Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake HS) who has racked up 16 hits for a .381 batting average … Jensen also leads the team in runs scored with 12 and triples with two … Kyle Moody (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) is adding some pop to the lineup with a home run and a team best 14 RBIs this season … Jake Nystrom (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) leads the team from the mound with a 3.72 ERA and a 2-2 record … Nystrom also leads the team with 19 batters struck out and Jensen is right behind him with 15.

UW-La Crosse Eagles (8-4)
After splitting their opening series with 25th ranked St. Thomas, the Eagles went 7-3 on their trip to Phoenix, Ariz. over spring break … The trip included a win against Concordia University (Ill.) who is just out of the rankings and back-to-back wins to end the trip on a high note … Jay Fanta leads the team with a .532 batting averaging and .766 slugging percentage along with 25 hits and six doubles … Fanta also leads the team with 14 RBIs … Fanta along with Cole Cefalu and Brooks Braga have the teams three home runs this year … Ben Cejka has been outstanding on the mound this season in 10.0 innings pitched with a .90 ERA and a record of 1-0 … Garrett Scray has made three starts on his way to a 2-1 record and leads the team with 12 batters struck out.

Last Meeting: (CSS All-Time Record vs. UW-La Crosse: 1-0)
The only meetings between the two teams came back in 2009 in a doubleheader at the Metrodome where the Saints won both games by a final of 6-3. However, the second game did not count as the game was halted in the middle of the sixth inning due to the time limit.
