FT. PIERCE, Fla. – For the first time, the St. Scholastica baseball team was swept in a doubleheader down in Florida, dropping both games Friday to Richard Stockton College (N.J.) 11-1 and 5-4.

The first game was a forgetful one for the Saints, falling to the Ospreys 11-1. The defeat is the worst since a 12-1 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at the 2010 NCAA Regional.

The Ospreys got a run in the top of the first and the Saints tried to respond in the bottom frame, but would strand the bases loaded. After that the CSS offense would be quiet until the bottom of the sixth when Kyle Flagstad (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) scored the lone run off a Shayne Ciernia (Eagan, Minn./Breck HS ) RBI double. In the meantime, the Osprey scored one run in the third and three in the fourth, sixth and seventh to make the final score 11-1.

Game two began, much like game one ended as the Ospreys took an early 2-0 lead with a two-run single in the bottom of the first.

CSS cut the lead in half in the top of the second on a Kyle Moody (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) solo home run, his first of the season. The Saints threatened again in the top of the third, getting a runner to third and nobody out, but were unable to get him across.

Richard Stockton took advantage in the bottom frame, plating three runs in the inning to extend the lead to 5-1. From that point, the Saints began to chip away. A RBI single by Jake Casareto (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) scored Tom Juberian (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) to make it 5-2 in the top of the fourth.

In the top of the fifth, John Hietpas (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS ) scored on a RBI by Andy Schwantes (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley HS (Minn.-Duluth)). Later in the inning, Moody drove in Schwantes to make it a 5-4 ball game. Casareto hit a one-out triple in the sixth, but would be left stranded. The Saints went quietly in the seventh as the Ospreys (7-4) completed the sweep with a 5-4 game two win.

The Saints, who hadn't loss more than one game in Florida since 2004, drop three games in Fort Pierce for the first time since the 2002 season. CSS has not had more than eight losses in a season since 2003 (10), already sit at 6-8 this year.

The Saints will be back in action in Minnesota next Friday when they take on the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in a doubleheader at Mall of America Field at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. The action is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m. and can be seen live on csssaints.com.
