Men’s Tennis Improves to 2-2 in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team defeated Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) Thursday by a score of 5-4.

Saint Ambrose (3-11) is affiliated with the NAIA and had won three straight against the Saints coming into today's meeting.

The Saints came out on top in two of the three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of Jacob Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) won 8-3. The No. 2 duo of Nick Lind (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) and Kolin Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) also won 8-5.

Engelstad won his 50th career singles match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 1 spot. James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) bounced back from Tuesday night's loss with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2. The final winner on the day was Brian Lindberg (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) at the No. 3 spot, coming out on top 7-6 (9-7), 6-4 for his first win in Florida.

The Saints (6-5) will finish up their spring trip tomorrow when they take on Illinois Wesleyan University in the morning.
