FT. PIERCE, Fla. – Junior pitcher Michael Swenson (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) allowed just one hit as the St. Scholastica baseball team defeated Messiah College (Pa.) 13-1 in seven innings on Wednesday for its fourth straight win.

Much like Monday, the Saints got off to a fast start. Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) led off the game with a single and that was followed up by a David Vogelgesang (Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) two-run home run to left field, the first this season by a Saints player. Later in the inning, Brandon Peterson (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) followed with a home run to center field to make it 3-0. Tom Juberian (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) followed with a RBI double to drive in Kyle Flagstad (Hinckley, Minn./Hinckley-Finlayson HS) to make the score 4-0 after a half inning.

CSS added to that lead in the top of the second as Vogelgesang knocked in Olson with a RBI single and then later scored on a Flagstad RBI single to extend the margin to 6-0.

Juberian's two-run double in the top of fourth was part of a three-run inning for the Saints to make it 9-0.

After the Falcons plated a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Saints had four runs come across in the top of the sixth. Two scored on a Tyler Henderson (Chisago Lakes, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) bases loaded single. Shayne Ciernia (Eagan, Minn./Breck HS ) had a sacrifice fly to drive in John Hietpas (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS ) and Jon Kusch (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS ) scored on a Jake Casareto (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) RBI to make the score 13-1. That would be the final as the game would end after seven innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

In his first start of the season, Swenson struck out three in seven innings and allowed only a lead-off double in the bottom of the fourth. The Falcons drop to 3-8 with the loss.

The Saints (5-5) will face 13th-ranked Keystone College (Pa.) in their first doubleheader down in Florida on Thursday. The action is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Eastern Time and 8 a.m. local time. The action can be heard live on csssaints.com.
