Ft. PIERCE, Fla. – The St. Scholastica baseball team kicked off its annual spring break trip to Florida with a 10-2 victory over Rutgers University-Camden on Monday morning.

The Saints got started very quickly in the top of the first. Kyle Moody (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) had a bases loaded RBI single and another run came in on the play off a throwing error. Tyler Henderson (Chisago Lakes, Minn./Chisago Lakes HS) followed with a RBI single. Tom Spaniol (St. Joseph, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) then was hit by pitch to force in a run and Jake Casareto (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) drew a bases loaded walk as it was 5-0 CSS with one out. The Scarlet Raptors would replace the starter after 0.1 innings.

After Rutgers-Camden got on the board with a run in the bottom of the first, the Saints added three more runs in the top of the second. Moody, Henderson and Casareto all had RBI singles in the inning.

The lead was extended to 10-1 in the third on Tom Juberian (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) RBI double and a Tom Spaniol (St. Joseph, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) RBI. The Scarlet Knights (2-4) added a run in the bottom of the fourth, but that was all the scoring there would be in the contest as the Saints went on to win 10-2.

David Vogelgesang (Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) went five innings to earn his first win of the season. Ben Grieger (Waverly, Iowa/Waverly-Shell Rock HS), AJ Nelson (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville HS ), Joel Wuorio (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors HS) and Brian Houdek (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) combined to pitch four scoreless innings of relief. The Saints improve to 4-1 all-time against Rutgers-Camden.

The Saints (4-5) will be off tomorrow and will be back in action on Wednesday for one, nine-inning game against Messiah College (Pa.) beginning at 11 a.m. Eastern Time and 10 a.m. local time. The game can be heard live on csssaints.com.
