DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica baseball team will play four, nine-inning games this weekend in St. Louis  with two against Buena Vista University (Iowa) and two vs. Washington University-St. Louis.

Last Action:
The Saints were swept by the University of St. Thomas on Monday night at Mall of America Field. The Tommies won the first game 3-2 after a three-run fourth inning. They then scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win game two 4-3.

#13 St. Scholastica Saints (0-2)
The Saints opened the season on Monday night with a pair of tight one-run losses to regional rival St. Thomas … The Saints led by two runs in each game … In the first D3baseball.com regular season poll, the Saints moved up one spot to 13th, due to the fact that the St. Thomas games were not included … The Saints went to St. Louis last year for the first time and split with the Bears … They were also originally scheduled to face St. Thomas in St. Louis, but those games were moved to junior college in Illinois due to weather … In the season-opening doubleheader vs. St. Thomas both starting pictures went the distance as Jake Nystrom (Fargo, N.D./Fargo North HS) went a career-best seven innings, strikeout out seven … In game two, Kyle Jensen (Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake HS) struck out six … Senior Tom Juberian (Park Rapids, Minn./Park Rapids HS) and sophomore Parker Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minn.-Duluth)) each led the team with three hits … Kyle Moody (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) had a pair of RBIs.

#16 Buena Vista Beavers (1-1)
The Beavers also started their season in the Metrodome on Sunday night, splitting a doubleheader with Saint John's … The first game went scoreless into the eighth inning until the Beavers got a game-winning single … In game two, Buena Vista held a two-run lead going into the seventh, but Saint John's plated three in the bottom half to win … The Beavers are coming off their first-ever NCAA Division III World Series appearance last season and defeated the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in their first-ever World Series game …  Buena Vista is ranked 16th in the current D3baseball.com poll … The Beavers lost four all-region performers from a year ago, but look to be led by their pitching staff this season … Left-hander Michael Dirk is back after going 5-1 last season, with two wins taking place in the postseason … Reggie Kock and Jon Ringblom are also expected to the toe the rubber … A big loss for the Beavers in the field is second team All-American shortstop Brad Blum, but do bring back all-region gold glover Ryan Scheetz at first base … The Beavers had only six hits in the two games vs. Saints John's with Jesse Munsterman, recording two … Weston Foxx had two of three RBIs … The Beavers were eighth in NCAA Division III last season in sacrifice bunts and 11th in triples.
