DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team will be at home one last time until mid-April when it hosts Saint John's University at the Arrowhead Tennis Center on Sunday.

The Saints won their season opener last Saturday over Concordia College-Moorhead by a score of 7-2 in the Burns Wellness Fieldhouse.

Sunday's match will be the final home match until April 13th for the Saints as they will either be on the road or down in Florida for Spring Break during that time … Saturday's season-opening victory was just the second win in a season opener for CSS since 2004 … Jacob Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) won at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, teaming with Brian Lindberg (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS), on Saturday which moved him up to fourth all-time in program history for most combined victories … He needs just one more win in singles to tie for second place for career victories … Kevin Hilpert (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS), who is currently the record leader for career double winning percentage, kept it going to begin this season, coming away with a win, teaming up with Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) … Freshman James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) won in both singles and doubles play on Saturday, teaming up with fellow freshman Tyler Bates (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech) to win at No. 2 doubles and then coming out on top at No. 3 singles … Nick Lambrecht (Stacy, Minn./North Branch HS (Minn.-Duluth)) and Kolin Dean (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander HS) also picked up singles wins in the season opener.

Saint John's Johnnies (0-2, 0-0 MIAC)
The Johnnies began their season also last Saturday, falling to Division I's South Dakota State and Division II's St. Cloud State … Saint John's will have a conference match against Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday before playing the Saints … The Johnnies placed ninth last season in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) with a 2-7 conference mark and a 6-9 record overall … Six returning starters are back from last year's squad led by Fabricio Moncada, who is a two-time All-MIAC selection and is ranked fourth in the Central Region in the preseason by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) … Engelstad took Moncada to a super-breaker last year with Moncada coming out on top 17-15 … The other senior on the squad, Ian Hansen, went 9-8 in both singles and doubles competition last season.

The Johnnies have controlled the series with the Saints' lone win coming at home during the 2003 season. Last year, the Johnnies defeated CSS 7-2 in Sartell. Dylan Kelly (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South HS) earned a singles win, while Kevin Hilpert (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) teamed with Brendan Anderson (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) to win in doubles.
