DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's and women's tennis teams will each partake in three matches over the weekend, beginning Friday evening.

Last Action:
The Saints are coming off their first defeat of the season to Saint John's by a score of 6-3 on Sunday at the Arrowhead Tennis Center. James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) was the lone winner in singles play, while CSS came out on top in two doubles matches.

St. Scholastica Saints (1-1)
The Saints will hit the road for the first time this season and it's going to be a long one as this weekend's contests will begin a string of 15 matches away from the Twin Ports … CSS was strong in doubles play last season and that has continued in the first two duals this year as the Saints have just many wins in doubles as they do in singles in half the matches … The No. 1 team of Jacob Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) and Brian Lindberg (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) are 2-0 in doubles action, while Cullen Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) is also 2-0 with two different partners … Freshman James Mack (Portsmouth, England/Cams Hill School) is the only Saint to have won his first two singles matches. 

St. Cloud State Huskies (3-0)
The Huskies are off to a 3-0 start this season, including a 7-2 triumph over Saint John's, a team the Saints just lost to … The Huskies are coming off a 9-0 shutout of Macalester College on Sunday … St. Cloud State is 14-4 in singles play on the year and 7-2 in doubles action … The Huskies are ranked fourth in the Central Region of NCAA Division II, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) … Joao Orsi and Elliot O'Neal are ranked in singles in the region with Orsi at No. 13 and O'Neal at No. 15 … Orsi and Mattheus Aching are ranked ninth in doubles.

The Saints last played the Huskies in 2010 with St. Cloud coming out on top 9-0.

Hamline Pipers (0-2)
The Pipers have dropped their first two matches of the season … Hamline lost the opener to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 6-3 and then to conference opponent Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday 8-1 … Robert Becker had the lone win in singles action against the Gusties … Both Becker and David Croonquist advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Tournament in the fall … Croonquist is ranked 15th in NCAA Division III in the Central Region in singles … Becker and Croonquist are 16th in doubles … The Pipers placed sixth in the MIAC last season.

The Saints defeated the Pipers 5-4 last season at the Arrowhead Tennis Center with the bottom of the lineup carrying the Saints.

Saint Mary's Cardinals (3-1)
The Cardinals are off to a 3-1 start after a pair of wins against Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) programs and a win over fellow UMAC school Martin Luther College … The lone loss of the season came against Luther College (Iowa) … Saint Mary's is 18-6 in singles play and 9-3 in doubles action thus far this season … Bobby Steingraebber is undefeated this season with a 4-0 singles record and a 4-0 doubles mark … The Cardinals finished last in the MIAC last season with an 0-9 record.

Women

Last Action:
The Saints lost their season opener on February 4th to Concordia College-Moorhead 6-3. Rachael Zwiener (St. Cloud, Minn./Home School) won in both singles and doubles play.

St. Scholastica Saints (0-1)
Friday night's contest at the Arrowhead Tennis Center will be the final match for the Saints in the Twin Ports until April 13th … The Saints do not have a single senior on the roster this season and the top five singles players are freshmen and sophomores … Besides Zwiener's two wins in the season opener, another freshman Alexis Gunderson (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) got the other win at No. 3 singles … Zwiener teamed with a third freshman, Cortne Solberg (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS), to win at No.2 doubles.

Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs (2-1)
The school down the street, Minnesota-Duluth, is 2-1 thus far this season … The Bulldogs opened up the season with a pair of wins in St. Peter on February 4th, one of which was against another UMAC school Bethany Lutheran … The Bulldogs are coming off a conference loss to Minnesota State 6-3 … Katie Bolf is 3-0 at No. 1 singles this season and has teamed with Brittany Thompson to be 3-0 at No. 1 doubles.

The Saints last played city-foe UMD in 2004 with the Saints coming out on top 8-1.

Hamline Pipers (0-1)
The Pipers played their season opener on Thursday against Carleton College and fell 9-0 … The Pipers finished last in the MIAC last season with a 1-9 record … The Pipers enter this season fairly young, but do have two seniors in Nicole Krier and Anna Yarbrough.

Last Meeting: (CSS All-Time Record vs. Hamline: 7-1)
The Saints swept the Pipers last season by a score of 9-0. CSS won all but one match in straight sets.

Saint Mary's Cardinals (1-2)
The Cardinals' lone this season came against Northwestern College out of the UMAC by a score of 8-1 … Saint Mary's will face both Edgewood College (Wis.) and Martin Luther College on Saturday before playing the Saints on Sunday … The Cardinals have three sisters that are all in the lineup with Bailey Edwards, Killian Edwards and McKennah Edwards … Bailey Edwards was an All-MIAC selection in both singles and doubles … Bailey and McKennah are 2-1 in doubles play this season … They are ranked 15th in the Central Region, while McKennah is ranked ninth in the region in singles.
