St. Norbert Finishes Strong Again in Victory over Men’s Hockey

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – For the second consecutive night, sixth-ranked St. Norbert College scored six unanswered goals to defeat the St. Scholastica men's hockey team 6-2 Saturday evening at Mars Lakeview Arena.

The Saints got on the scoreboard first as Matt Malenstyn (Surrey, British Columbia/Tamanawis Secondary (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) scored with a slap shot from the point just over four minutes into the game.  Justin Krabben (Rocky Mountain House, Alberta/Hunting Hills HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) and Bobby Lipsett (Salmon Arm, British Columbia/Salmon Arm Secondary (Salmon Arm-BCHL) ) were credited with the assists.

CSS made it 2-0 after a delayed penalty led the Saints to scoring with an extra attacker as Joel Paiment netted the goal. It was Krabben and Lipsett once again with the assists. The Saints outshot the Green Knights 9-7 in the opening 20 minutes.

The second period belonged to St. Norbert as Patrick McCadden scored six minutes into the period to put the Green Knights on the board. After Joe Perry tied it up with five minutes left, Cullen Bradshaw scored on the power-play three minutes later to give St. Norbert a 4-2 lead at the second intermission. The Green Knights outshot the Saints 16-5 in the period.

The Green Knights (10-2-1, 6-1-1 NCHA) kept it going in the third period as Joe Perry scored his second of the night one minute and 32 seconds into the period. Cody Keefer scored on the power-play two minutes later and Kyle Stroh put in the last goal of the night with 11 minutes left to make the final 6-2.

St. Norbert outshot the Saints 38-19 for the game. Both teams committed 10 penalties for 23 minutes.

Colin Rundell (Tees, Alberta/Lacombe Composite (Alaska-Fairbanks) ) stopped 24 shots in the loss for the Saints, while David Jacobson had 17 saves in the win for the Green Knights.

The Saints (3-9-0, 1-7-0 NCHA) are now off until after the New Year when they will be back at home for a nonconference contest against Augsburg College on Friday, January 4.
