Box Score TACOMA, Wash. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team never led in a 67-47 loss to Pacific Lutheran University (Wash.) on Monday night.
The Saints went scoreless for the first four minutes of the contest until
MarShaan Johnson (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis North HS (Minneapolis Comm. & Tech. College)) made the first bucket to make it 4-2. The Lutes then went scored six straight points to make it 10-2.
Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) scored five straight for CSS to cut the margin to 10-7.
The Lutes responded with a 10-2 run to make it 20-9. The Pacific Lutheran lead got as high as 13 and the Lutes went into the locker room with a 35-24 lead.
Pacific Lutheran (2-4) shot 40 percent in the first half, while the Saints were at 36 percent. CSS committed 13 turnovers, leading to 18 Pacific Lutheran points.
The Saints cut the lead down to seven in the first two minutes of the second half, but the Lutes responded with a 15-2 run to make it 45-30. Pacific Lutheran led by 20, until the Saints made an 8-0 run to make the score 52-40.
However, the margin would not get below 10 points as the Lutes would go on to win by a final score of 67-47.
CSS shot 35 percent for the game, while the Lutes shot 44 percent for the game. The Saints out-rebounded Pacific Lutheran 38-33, but committed 22 turnovers that led to 31 Lute points.
Tester paced the Saints with 16 points. Johnson added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds. Andrew Earnest led the Lutes with 19 points.
The Saints (1-6) will be in Tacoma again tomorrow night when they will face the University of Puget Sound. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. pacific time (9 p.m. Duluth time).
