MENOMONIE, Wis. – The 14th-ranked St. Scholastica men's hockey team went to Dunn County Ice Arena and defeated the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Saturday afternoon 3-2.

The win temporarily put the Saints in first place of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). However, St. Norbert reclaimed first after a come-from-behind win tonight against UW-Eau Claire.

The first period would go scoreless with each team recording nine shots on goal. In the second period, the Saints got on the board as Chad Golanowski (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll HS (Calgary Canucks-AJHL) ) netted his fourth of the season, seven minutes into the period. Chris Sinclair (Fort Frances, Ontario/Beaver Brae Secondary (Fort Frances-SIJHL) ) had the assist.

A little over two minutes later Paul Marcoux (Brandon, Manitoba /Vincent Massey Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) extended the CSS lead to 2-0 on his second goal in as many games. Bobby Lipsett (Salmon Arm, British Columbia/Salmon Arm Secondary (Salmon Arm-BCHL) ) and Eric Kraft (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS (Lake Superior State) ) assisted.

The Blue Devils cut the margin to one, 31 seconds later on a goal by Charles Lachance. The Saints got that goal back with less than two minutes to go in the period when Brett Corcoran (Parksville, British Columbia/Ballenas Secondary (Trail Smoke-BCHL) ) scored his league leading 15th goal of the season to make it 3-1. Alex Valenti (Blaine, Wash./Bellingham HS (Merritt-BCHL) ) had the assist.

Stout responded quickly again, 27 seconds later as Luke Dillon scored for the Blue Devils to make it 3-2 at the second intermission.

St. Scholastica did not need any scoring in the third period as Colin Rundell (Tees, Alberta/Lacombe Composite (Alaska-Fairbanks) ) stopped all eight shots he saw in the period as the Saints prevailed 3-2.

Rundell made 22 saves to earn the win for CSS, while Nick Hopper had 27 saves in the loss for the Blue Devils (7-13-1, 3-10-1 NCHA). Both teams had just one power-play in the contest with neither converting.

The Saints (12-5-4, 7-3-4 NCHA) will be at home next weekend when they host both UW-Stevens Point (three points back of CSS) and conference-leading St. Norbert College at Mars Lakeview Arena. The weekend begins against the Pointers with the puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Friday. All of the action can be seen live on csssaints.com.
