Box Score DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team used the hot hand of
Jonah Dahlman (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) and solid defense to defeat the University of Minnesota-Morris Cougars by a score of 77-64 Saturday afternoon at the Reif Gymnasium.
Morris jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead to open the game, only to see the Saints come back and tie it 13-13 with just over seven minutes gone in the game. The Saints would take the lead with back to back baskets by Dahlman. The teams would trade baskets and the Saints would take a 36-28 lead into halftime.
The second half started with Morris creeping back into the game, cutting the lead to one with 12:42 left in the game. The Cougars would then take the lead at the 11:22 mark, only to see the Saints take the lead for good with a 3-point basket by
Chris Hamers (Onamia, Minn./Onamia HS). The Cougars could never string together a run for the rest of the half and the Saints would eventually win 77-64 in front of many spectators here for Alumni Weekend.
Morris (6-11, 4-3 UMAC) would be led by Brendon Foss who would have a team high 20 points. The Cougars would finish the game shooting 43-percent from the field, 23-percent from beyond the arc, and 61-percent from the charity stripe. The Cougars would collect 28 rebounds and commit 15 turnovers.
The Saints were led by Dahlman who scored 32 points to pace the Saints.
Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) added another double-double to his career, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
Thad Picott (Fridley, Minn./Fridley HS) provided a spark off of the bench chipping in 10 points.
The Saints would finish the game shooting 57-percent from the field, 44-percent from beyond the arc, and 71-percent from the free-throw line. CSS would grab 30 rebounds and commit 15 turnovers as well.
The Saints (9-9, 6-1 UMAC) will face Northland College this Tuesday, at Northland, with tip time scheduled for 7:30 pm local time. Tune into csssaints.com for updates from that game.
