Box Score DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team showed some offensive firepower as they clicked on all cylinders to defeat Crown College by a score of 96-64 Friday night at the Reif Gymnasium.
The Saints started out the game with 15-4, aided mostly by the 3-point shooting of
Derek Steve (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Apollo HS). The Saints would extend the lead to 23 points as the Storm could not buy a basket midway through the first half. The Saints would go into the break leading 51-27.
The second half was much of the same as the Saints extended the lead to 33 just three minutes into the second session. The lead would never get below 24 as both teams would use their benches to end the final minutes of the contest. In a game delayed two hours, the Saints would win 96-64 when the final buzzer sounded.
For Crown (2-13, 1-3 UMAC) they were lead by Truman Shetler and Andy Harrell, scoring 15 and 11 points respectively. The Storm would finish the game shooting 41-percent from the field, 36-percent from beyond the arc, and 43-percent from the free throw line. The Storm would finish with 24 rebounds and 17 turnovers.
For the Saints,
Brett Tester (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) had 17 points,
Chris Hamers (Onamia, Minn./Onamia HS) chipped in 13, Steve added 12, and
Thad Picott (Fridley, Minn./Fridley HS) scored 10 coming off of the bench. Every player on the Saints bench would play in this game. The Saints would shoot 52-percent from the field, 50-percent from beyond the arc, and 85-percent from the charity stripe. The Saints would finish with 43 rebounds and commit 19 turnovers.
