STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team used two power-play goals in the third period to tie the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Friday night 3-3.

The Pointers struck first, four minutes into the game, on a Kyle Politz even-strength goal. That would be the only tally of the first period as the Pointers out-shot the Saints 7-3.

Stevens Point made the score 2-0 midway into the second period on a goal by Scott Henegar. The Saints quickly responded and made it 2-1 only 17 seconds later with a goal by Carter Davis (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan/Central Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ). Cody Danychuk (Biggar, Saskatchewan/Biggar HS (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) and Brett Corcoran (Parksville, British Columbia/Ballenas Secondary (Trail Smoke-BCHL) ) had the assists.

However, the Pointers got that goal back with over six minutes to go in the period on a Harrison Niemann tally to make it 3-1 at the second intermission.

The Pointers continued to lead by a two-goal margin, until they received a double-minor penalty with less than eight minutes to go. Tyler Miller (Fort Frances, Ontario/Rainy River HS (Thunder Bay-SIJHL) ) cut the lead to 3-2, 28 seconds into the power-play with an assist from Jeremy Dawes (Winnipeg, Manitoba/College Jeanne Suave (Portage-MJHL) ). Dawes then tied the game on the power-play one minute and 28 seconds later. Corcoran and Austin Brown (Lathrup Village, Mich./Legacy HS (Woodstock-MJAHL) ) assisted. At the end of regulation the score would be tied 3-3.

Stevens Point would have the better of the chances in overtime, but Colin Rundell (Tees, Alberta/Lacombe Composite (Alaska-Fairbanks) ) stopped three shots in the five-minute session as the game ended in a 3-3 tie.

Rundell made 19 saves on the night, while UWSP netminder Nick Graves had 26 saves. The Saints out-shot the Pointers 29-22, including 25-12 in the second and third periods.

The Saints (8-5-3, 3-3-3 NCHA) and Pointers (8-7-3, 4-4-3 NCHA) conclude their series tomorrow night at Willett Arena with the puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m. once again. The action can be heard live on csssaints.com.
