PREVIEW: Tennis Looking to Wrap up Regular Season in Style on Saturday

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's and women's tennis teams will play their final regular season dual matches on Saturday at the Arrowhead Tennis Center when they host Northwestern College.

The Saints had their program-record 11-match winning streak come to an end with an 8-1 loss to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Blugolds are ranked 14th in the Central region, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The No. 3 doubles team of Kevin Hilpert (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) and Dylan Kelly (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis South HS) were the lone winners.

St. Scholastica Saints (12-10, 9-0 UMAC)
The Saints are looking to capture their 15th straight UMAC regular season title with a win on Saturday … CSS has already clinched at least a share of the title … The Saints are also looking to extend their conference winning streak to 95 consecutive matches … In overall conference singles matches, the Saints are 52-2, with the two losses coming against the Eagles … CSS has yet to lose a conference doubles match with a record of 27-0 … Brendan Anderson (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) and Kevin Hilpert (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) are both currently tied for most doubles wins in a season with 17 … As a team, the Saints have already broken the program record with 51 doubles victories this year … Junior #Jacob Engelstad# is also climbing up the program list in singles as he is currently tied for fifth with 44 career singles victories.

The Eagles have won six of their last eight matches, all coming in conference play … The Eagles will be playing a make-up contest at Minnesota-Morris later today … Northwestern is capable of knocking off the Saints as they have played common non-conference opponents similarly to the Saints and handed CSS there only two conference singles losses … The only singles/doubles conference losses for Northwestern have also only come against the Saints … The Eagles are led by David Knight and Keagan Blancke, who each have nine singles wins … Blancke has won nine straight matches.

Three weeks ago, the Saints defeated the Eagles 7-2.
