PREVIEW: Busy Week Begins this Weekend for Baseball

DULUTH, Minn. – The 10th-ranked St. Scholastica baseball team will face the University of Minnesota-Morris in a three-game set and go out of conference to play Saint John's University this weekend. There has been a slight change to the Morris series as the teams will play a doubleheader Friday, starting at 2 p.m. and one-game Saturday, starting at noon.

Upcoming Schedule Changes:
The Saints have tweaked their schedule for next week as they have added a doubleheader against regional power and ninth-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Tuesday in Whitewater. With the addition of the Warhawks, the Saints have moved their game against the University of Wisconsin-Superior to Thursday at Wade Stadium. Also, the postponed Northland game from Wednesday will also be squeezed into next week. The timing of that game will be determined over the weekend.

Last Action:
The Saints defeated regional-rival University of St. Thomas 4-2 on Monday at Wade Stadium. Matt Lewis (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) pitched five scoreless innings in relief to get the win. Joe Link (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) was 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the offense.

#10 St. Scholastica Saints (23-4, 13-1 UMAC)

The Saints have won nine in a row and 14 of their last 15 games … The Saints dropped one spot in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)/D3baseball.com poll to 10th … In the four home wins over Easter weekend, Kyle Moody (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) extended his hitting streak to 11 games, which matches the longest winning streak by a Saint this season … Moody has cracked the top 10 in the latest NCAA Division III statistical rankings, now ninth in batting average (.470) … Brian Marshik (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS ) had recorded a hit in 11 straight games at the beginning of the season … Moody also leads the team with 13 multi-hit and eight multi-RBI games … Moody and Marshik have also reached base in every game they have played this season … One streak did come to an end, however, and that was Brandon Peterson (Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS)'s reached base streak, which ended at 25 against the Tommies … Joe Link (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS) is now 31-for-31 on the year in stolen bases and is nine away from the program record … Link is ranked second in the nation in stolen bases per game (1.2) … The CSS offensive is ranked second in the country in scoring (9.8 runs per game) and fifth in team batting average (.355) … Matt Lewis (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) picked up team-high seventh win of the season against St. Thomas on Monday …As a whole, the CSS pitching staff is ranked seventh in team ERA (2.53).

Minnesota-Morris Cougars (7-12, 6-3 UMAC)
Morris started off the year losing nine of its first ten games on their spring break trip, but are currently riding a three-game winning streak … The Cougars are scheduled to play one game against Northland College later today … Drew Lundquist has started every game for the Cougars and is batting a solid .464, which ranks second in the conference … Ian Olson is leading the Cougars in RBIs with 18, Olson also has three homers on the year to lead the team … Morris is the third-best hitting team in the UMAC with a .294 team batting average … Nate Haseman is coming off a week where he was named UMAC Pitcher of the Week in a game where he went all seven innings and struck out seven, while allowing zero runs …That game lowered Haseman's ERA to 1.79 on the year … As a team the Cougars pitching staff is giving up 4.95 earned runs per game, and their opponents are giving up 4.23 per game.
