Schedule Shake-Up Does Not Slow Baseball

NEW ULM, Minn. – Despite weather disrupting the Saints' schedule, the St. Scholastica baseball team rolled to a 14-4 victory against Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) rival Martin Luther College in game one of its weekend series on Saturday afternoon.

Five Saints (17-4, 8-1 UMAC) had two hits and at least two RBIs in a defeat of the Knights (2-12, 2-5 UMAC). CSS scored in five of seven innings in rolling to a ten-run victory.

The Saints and just one hit in the first inning, a two-RBI double by #Scott Greening# while a pair of walks and two Martin Luther errors aided the Saints.

The second was the first of two big innings for CSS and began with four straight singles. A #Brandon Peterson# RBI double and a two-RBI single by #Kyle Moody# led the way.

Four hits and another Knight error led to five more runs for the Saints in the fourth. Moody had his third RBI of the afternoon, and #Jake Caserato# reached on a fielder's choice, driving in two runs in the process.

A #Kyle Flagstad# single drove in #Brandon Porten#, who led off the sixth with a walk. #Tanner Viola# and #Andy Schwantes# each had an RBI in the seventh.

#Josh Retka# earned the victory on the mound, allowing just two hits and two earned runs in four innings of work. He struck out two on the afternoon.

The Saints and Knights are back at it again tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader on the schedule in New Ulm. First pitch of game one is scheduled for Noon.
