PREVIEW: Tennis Teams to Return Home for UMAC Action this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's and women's tennis teams will be back playing in Duluth for the first time since February 20th when they each face four conference foes in five dual matches this weekend.

Match Times:
Friday vs. North Central – 7 p.m. (Arrowhead Tennis Center)
Saturday vs. Martin Luther – 12 p.m. (Burns Wellness Commons Fieldhouse)
Saturday vs. Bethany Lutheran – 4 p.m. (Arrowhead Tennis Center)
Sunday vs. Minnesota-Morris (DH) – 11 a.m. (Burns Wellness Commons Fieldhouse or Central High School)-weather pending

Men:

Last Action:
The Saints defeated Northwestern College last Saturday 7-2. #Jacob Engelstad#, #Dylan Kelly#, #Brendan Anderson#, and #Kevin Hilpert# all won in both doubles and singles.

St. Scholastica Saints (7-9, 4-0 UMAC)
The Saints have won 89 straight UMAC dual matches and are currently six-match winning streak overall … CSS has lost just four matches during the six-match dual winning streak … Kevin Hilpert (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) and Jacob Engelstad (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) have each won their last six singles matches … The doubles teams of Brendan Anderson (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) and Kevin Hilpert (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) and #Cullen Combs# and #Tucker Combs# have each won four straight matches … Anderson is currently tied for the program record for wins at No.1 doubles in a career (24) and is fourth all-time with 45 career doubles wins (record:50).

Martin Luther Knights (2-4, 2-2 UMAC)
Since falling to St. Scholastica on April 2nd, the Knights have won two of their last three matches  … The two wins came against North Central and Bethany Lutheran … Martin Luther has won just 10 singles and four doubles matches this season.

The Saints also blanked the Knights earlier this season, only losing eight games in singles and four in doubles.


Bethany Lutheran Vikings (2-4, 2-3 UMAC)
The two lone wins for the Vikings this season have come against Minnesota-Morris … Bethany Lutheran is scheduled to face Northwestern later today … The Vikings are 8-26 in singles matches and 3-14 in doubles matches this season.

The Cougars enter the weekend having won their last two matches, both against North Central … The other victory came against Bethany Lutheran College … The Cougars were picked to finish tied for fourth in the conference this season, according to the preseason coaches' poll … Morris returns its top five players from last season … Preya Chunkapura leads the way after an All-UMAC sophomore season where she went 4-0 in UMAC matches while leading the team in dual match wins. Chunkapura's season was ended in the quarterfinals of the UMAC Tournament. Also returning for the Cougars in 2011 is Jessica Armstrong, who finished second to Chunkapura in wins, both overall and in the UMAC … Freshman Abby Fragodt has won her last five singles matches at the No. 1 spot.
