Singles Play Gives Carthage the Win over Men’s Tennis

ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team was defeated on Tuesday by Carthage College (Wis.) by a score of 6-3.

The Red Men (10-3) are ranked 15th in the Central Region, according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.

The Saints' doubles teams got off to a good start, taking two of the three matches. The No. 1 duo of #Jacob Engelstad# and #Dylan Kelly# defeated their opponents 9-7. Carthage's No. 1 team was ranked 25th in the Central Region. Also the Combs Brothers at the No. 3 spot, #Tucker Combs# and #Cullen Combs#, were victorious 8-2.

However, the Red Men proved to be too strong in singles play, defeating the Saints (1-8) in the top five spots. The lone singles win for CSS came when #Kevin Hilpert# defeated his opponent at the No. 6 spot 6-3, 6-3.

The Saints will be on the court tomorrow for a pair of matches. The first match will be against the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at 11:30 a.m. local time and later in the day, the Saints will face Schreiner University (Tex.) at 5:30 p.m. local time.
