Men’s Tennis Falls Short in First Match of the Season

DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team was defeated 5-4 in its first match of the season Saturday night against Saint Mary's University at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.

CSS went 1-2 in doubles competition. The No. 3 team of #Kevin Hilpert# and #Kolin Dean# defeated St. Mary's Pawel Szczepkowski and Steven Mino in a tiebreaker 9-8.

St. Scholastica then went 3-3 in singles competition. CSS's No. 2, #Brian Lindberg#, defeated St. Mary's Pawel Szczepkowski in straight sets 6-0, 6-4. At No. 3, #Tucker Combs# fell short of the win, losing 6-3, 4-6, (10-4) in a super-breaker. On the other hand, No. 4 Kevin Hilpert (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) rallied to win 3-6, 6-4, (10-4) in a super-breaker. Also, No. 5 #Brendan Anderson# came out with the win, defeating the Cardinals Andrew Rangitsch 4-6, 6-2, (10-3) in a super-breaker.

The Saints will go on the road tomorrow to face Saint John's University. Action will begin at 1 p.m.
