Tyler Miller (Fort Frances, Ontario/Rainy River HS (Thunder Bay-SIJHL) ) scored three times to lift the Saints over the University of Wisconsin-Stout Blue Devils 8-6 at Mars Lakeview Arena on Friday night.

The victory over the Blue Devils (5-5-0, 2-3-0 NCHA) gives the Saints a four-game winning streak, two of which are against conference opponents.

The Saints were in a scare early when Branden Gay found the net for the Blue Devils just 24 seconds into the game to give UW-Stout an early lead.

Just 1:43 later the bad got worse for CSS as Luke Dillon scored another for Stout to give them a 2-0 advantage just 2:07 into the game.

St. Scholastica would cut the lead in half five minutes later when Garet Chumley (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS (Jersey-EJHL) ) scored a power play goal on assists from Brandon Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Central Memorial HS (Calgary Royals-AJHL)) and Brenden Bradbury (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Monticello HS/Vincent Massey Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) to make it 2-1 in favor of the Blue Devils.

Six and a half minutes later the Saints would tie the game back up at two when Miller scored his first goal of the night on assists from Jeremy Dawes (Winnipeg, Manitoba/College Jeanne Suave (Portage-MJHL) ) and Austin Brown (Lathrup Village, Mich./Legacy HS (Woodstock-MJAHL) ).

Stout would strike twice more before the end of the period when Jordan Tredinnick scored two straight goals, the first with 46 seconds left and the second with 12 seconds left to send the Blue Devils into the first intermission with a 4-2 advantage.

CSS came out hot in the second period as Carter Davis (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan/Central Collegiate (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) scored the Saints second power play goal of the night on assists from Brown and Brett Corcoran (Parksville, British Columbia/Ballenas Secondary (Trail Smoke-BCHL) ) to make it a 4-3 game.

Just over five minutes later the Saints would find the net again when Dawes scored yet another power play goal on a Corcoran assist to tie the game up at four.

The tie wouldn't last long as Gay put in his second goal of the night just a minute and a half later to give Stout a 5-4 advantage.

Just as the Blue Devils did in the first period, the Saints scored the last two goals in the second with the first coming from Dave Williams (Okotoks, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Waywayseecappo-MJHL) ) on assists from Nowakowski and Chad Golanowski (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll HS (Calgary Canucks-AJHL) ).  Then with just 43 seconds left, Miller dodged Blue Devils and weaved his way to the net for a spectacular score, his second of the night.  Davis and Dawes were credited with assists on the play as the Saints took a 6-5 lead after two periods.

Another tie came early in the third period when Gay earned a hat trick of his own scoring just 51 seconds in to knot things up at six.

With 5:46 left in the game, Eric Kraft (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS (Lake Superior State) ) got in on the action scoring his second goal of the season on an assist from Bradbury to give the Saints a one-goal advantage.

Miller would put the icing on the cake and earn his hat trick with 3:21 to go in the game on assists from Dawes and Chris Sinclair (Fort Frances, Ontario/Beaver Brae Secondary (Fort Frances-SIJHL) ).  The Saints controlled the puck for the remainder of the game as Stout wasn't able to pull their goaltender until there were 30 seconds left and CSS went on to win 8-6.

Colin Rundell (Tees, Alberta/Lacombe Composite (Alaska-Fairbanks) ) earned the victory after coming off the bench to start the second period.  Rundell made 20 saves to improve his record to 3-2-1 on the year.

For Miller it was his first career hat trick.  He now has four goals this season and is second on the team with 14 total points.

The top scorer on the night for CSS was Dawes, as he had a goal and three assists and sits at third on the team with 12 total points.

Corcoran's two assists keeps him in the top scoring spot on the team with 15 points on seven goals and eight assists.

The Saints (6-2-1, 2-2-1 NCHA) and Blue Devils will face off again tomorrow afternoon with a 4 p.m. puck drop at Mars Lakeview Arena.  The game can be seen live on GameCentral at csssaints.com.
