ABERDEEN, S.D. – After trailing the entire first half, the St. Scholastica men's basketball team's offense came alive in the second to take down Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) rival Presentation College on Friday evening by a 77-75 final.
CSS improves its season record to 7-10 and pulls into fourth place in the UMAC at 4-2. Presentation falls to 4-13 on the year, including a 1-5 conference mark.
The Saints shot just 40% in the first half, scoring just 12 of 30 baskets and led by #Brett Tester#, who had nine points through the first 20 minutes. On the other side, Presentation shot 53.3% in the first half, led by Channing Coffey who had 13 points in the first period of play.
Presentation took an eight-point lead just two minutes into the first half and kept St. Scholastica off-balance the rest of the frame to take a 13-point lead into the locker room.
The CSS Saints came out for the second half and immediately cut into the PC lead as Tester scored two more of his eventual 23 points on the night just 19 seconds into the second.
Seven straight points by #Sean Mayberry# pulled the teams even at 46 apiece with five minutes down in the second. That seven-straight eventually became 14 straight with Mayberry putting the CSS Saints up by seven just two minutes later.
From there, St. Scholastica never looked back, leading by as many as nine before Presentation was able to cut into the lead late with a three-pointer in the closing seconds cutting the final deficit to two.
Mayberry finished with a game-high 25 points off the bench for CSS. Along with Tester's 23, #Jonah Dahlman# also cracked double figures with 14 points while also leading the team with five assists.
Tester, Dahlman, and #Derek Anderson# each had eight rebounds to lead the Saints. Anderson also added a game-high seven steals.
For Presentation, Channing Coffeey finished with 25 after nearly duplicating his first-half success. He also finished with a team-high 10 rebounds to complete a double-double. Shane Cunningham finished with eight assists to lead the PC Saints.
