DULUTH, Minn. – On Senior Night Thursday, the ninth-ranked St. Scholastica baseball team captured its 14th consecutive outright Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season championship by sweeping a doubleheader from Crown College 12-0 and 7-3 at Wade Stadium.

In game one, pitchers #Matt Lewis# (Jr.-Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), #David Barningham# (Jr.-Bayfield, Wis./Washburn), #Kyle Jensen# (Fr.-Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake), #Jake Nystrom# (Fr.-Fargo, N.D./North) combined to pitch a no-hitter in a 12-0 victory. The no-no is the sixth in program history with last occurring against Crown College in 2007. In that game, five pitchers combined for a no-hitter.

#Tom Juberian# (So.-Park Rapids, Minn.) tripled and later scored for the first run of the game in the second inning. #Joe Link# (Jr.-Woodbury, Minn.) then led off the third inning with a home run to left to make it 2-0. Juberian hit his second triple of the game in the fourth, driving in senior #Paul Kolodge# (Sr.-Cloquet, Minn.). Juberian later scored on an #Andy Manos# (Jr.-White Bear Lake, Minn.) sacrifice fly to make it 4-0 after four innings.

Senior #Sean Claugherty# (Sr.-Oakdale, Minn./Tartan) recorded his 200th career hit with a RBI-single in the fifth. He is the fifth Saint in program history to reach 200 career hits. Senior #Brian Peterson# (Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Hill-Murray) and Juberian also had RBIs in the inning to extend the margin to 7-0.

CSS would plate five in the sixth with a two-run single by #Brandon Peterson# (So.-Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) and RBIs by #Scott Greening# (Jr.-Antigo, Wis.), Kolodge, and Juberian to make the final 12-0.

Matt Lewis (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) got the win, pitching the first three innings of the game. Juberian was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Saints offensively.

In the nightcap, senior #Jordan Sandstrom# (Sr.-Silver Bay, Minn./William M. Kelley) would play seven positions in the 7-3 victory. CSS would only manage a season-low three hits and didn't get its first hit until the third inning, but was already up 5-0, thanks to walks and errors by Crown.

The Storm put a little scare in the Saints by plating three runs in the fifth to make it a 5-3 game. The Saints got two of those runs back in the bottom half with a RBI-triple by #David Vogelgesang# (Fr.-Hastings, Minn.), who then scored on a Crown error to make the final tally 7-3.

#Jeff Adams# (Sr.-Two Harbors, Minn.) improved to 7-0, pitching the first three innings.

The Saints finish the regular season 34-5 and 19-1 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. The Storm fall to 3-25 overall and 1-19 in the conference. CSS and Crown will not play the third game of the series due to the threat of inclement weather tomorrow.

The Saints will host the UMAC Postseason Tournament beginning next Thursday at Wade Stadium. New this year will be paid admission to the tournament. Check out csssaints.com early next week for details.
