ST. PAUL – The seventh-ranked St. Scholastica baseball team played its final non-conference of the regular season today, falling to the University of St. Thomas 5-1 at Koch Diamond.
The Saints fall to 32-5 overall and three of the five losses have come against the reigning NCAA Division III National Champion Tommies. St. Thomas improves to 25-6 overall. The Tommies have won the last six meetings against the Saints.
CSS threatened first in the top of the second, putting runners at second and third with two outs, but came away with nothing in the inning. The Tommies then put runners at second and third with one out in the bottom half and would get a sacrifice fly for the first run of the game.
It remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth, when St. Thomas tripled twice in the inning and plated three runs to extend its lead to 4-0.
The Saints got on the board in the top of the sixth when #Paul Kolodge# (
Sr.-Cloquet, Minn.) drove in #Steve Gerten# (
Sr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) with a double to make it 4-1.
After two quick outs in the seventh, the Tommies got back-to-back singles to get that run back and go up 5-1. CSS put a runner on third in the eighth, but could not muster a run as the Tommies prevailed 5-1.

Fr.-Hastings, Minn.) picked up the loss for St. Scholastica allowing six hits in 5.2 innings. Four of the six hits came in the sixth inning. Kris Edwards earned the win for the Tommies, striking out seven in 7.2 innings. Kolodge was 3-for-4 to lead the Saints offensively.
The Saints will wrap-up their regular season on Thursday and Friday when they face Crown College for a three-game series. Thursday's doubleheader will begin at 4 p.m. at Wade Stadium.
