NEW ULM, Minn. – The 16th-ranked St. Scholastica baseball team extended its win streak to 10 games with a 19-1 victory over Martin Luther College this afternoon.

The Saints improve to 17-3 overall and 4-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Knights continue to be winless on the year with an overall record of 0-17 and 0-5 in the conference.

CSS put up a run in the top of the first with a RBI-single from #Sean Claugherty# (Sr.-Oakdale, Minn./Tartan). The Saints then blew it open in the top of the second, by plating 11 runs on nine hits.

#Brian Marshik# (Jr.-Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View) and #Brandon Peterson# (So.-Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley) each had a two-run singles to begin the scoring. #Paul Kolodge# (Sr.-Cloquet, Minn.) and #Steve Gerten# (Sr.-West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) followed with sacrifice flies to make it 7-0. Then after an error extended the inning, Marshik added two more RBIs with a double. Claugherty finished the scoring in the inning with a three-run home run, his second of the season, to make it 12-0.

#Chad Peterson# (Jr.-New Brighton, Minn./St. Anthony Village) had a sacrifice fly in the fourth and Steve Gerten (West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) had a sacrifice fly in the fifth. #Kyle Moody# (So.-Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) also drove in a run in the fifth with a single.

#Griffin Bell# (Jr.-Oconomowoc, Wis.) and #David Vogelgesang# (Fr.-Hastings, Minn.) had RBIs in the sixth, while #Jordan O'Neill# (Fr.-Blaine, Minn./Totino-Grace) and #Mark Harber# (Fr.-Austin, Minn.) drove in runs in the ninth to make the final score 19-1. #Brian Houdek# (Fr.-Mahtomedi, Minn.) also had his first collegiate hit in the victory.

#Jeff Adams# (Sr.-Two Harbors, Minn.) improved to 3-0 as he struck out six in five innings of work and allowed just two hits. #Tyler Olin# (Fr.-Duluth, Minn./East) in his first collegiate appearance went four innings to earn the save. Brian Marshik (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS ) and Sean Claugherty (Oakdale, Minn./Tartan HS) each had a pair of hits and four RBIs to lead CSS offensively.

The Saints and the Knights will finish their three-game series tomorrow when they play a doubleheader, starting at noon. Both of those games can be heard live on ESPN Radio 560-WEBC.
