Moody finishes with three RBIs

ASHLAND, Wis. – The 16th-ranked St. Scholastica baseball team scored seven runs in the third to take an 11-0 lead and never looked back on its way to a 19-5 triumph in seven innings over Northland College at LumberJack Field on Tuesday.

The Saints improve to 16-3 overall and 3-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The LumberJacks fall to 4-9 overall and suffer their first defeat in UMAC play with a record of 3-1. The Saints climbed up two spots to 16th in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)/D3baseball.com top 25 poll that was released today.

After a scoreless first inning, the Saints bats came alive in the second. #Tom Juberian# (So.-Park Rapids, Minn.) drove in a run with an infield single to get the scoring started. #Andy Manos# (Jr.-White Bear Lake, Minn.) followed with a two-run double and #Sean Claugherty# (Sr.-Oakdale, Minn./Tartan) finished off the scoring in the inning with a RBI-single to make it 4-0 CSS.

The Saints would put seven across in the third to put the game away. All seven runs would be unearned as Northland retired the first two Saints batters and then three batters later committed an error to extend the inning. #Joe Link# (Jr.-Woodbury, Minn.) had a two-run double in the inning, #Paul Kolodge# (Sr.-Cloquet, Minn.) drove in two with a single, and #Brian Marshik# (Jr.-Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View), along with Claugherty had RBI-singles to extend the margin to 11-0.

The 'Jacks didn't go down without a fight as they responded with five runs in the fourth to make it 11-5. CSS got three of those runs back in the fifth with two coming off a #Griffin Bell# (Jr.-Oconomowoc, Wis.) double to make it 14-5.

#Kyle Moody# (So.-Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) added a two-run double in the sixth and the Saints plated three more in the seventh to end the game in seven innings by a score of 19-5.

#Matt Lewis# (Jr.-Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) allowed one hit over three innings to earn the win for St. Scholastica. Five different Saints had two hits with Kyle Moody (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) leading the way with three RBIs. The Saints finished with 15 hits in the contest.

The Saints will begin a three-game series with Martin Luther College on Friday in New Ulm, Minn. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and can be heard live on ESPN Radio 560-WEBC. The Knights have handed the Saints their lone conference regular season loss in each of the last two seasons.
