CLAUGHERTY EXTENDS HIT STREAK IN FINAL AT BAT

Streak reaches 26 straight games in 12-2 victory over Cougars

DULUTH, Minn. – The ninth-ranked St. Scholastica baseball team wrapped up a three-game sweep of the University of Minnesota-Morris Cougars with a seven-inning, 12-2 win Saturday at Wade Stadium.

CSS upped their record to 29-3 overall, and now own a 14-0 record in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). The Saints earned their 22nd consecutive victory; they are now one win away from tying the program's all-time consecutive wins mark held by the 2000 club. Morris fell to 6-20 (5-10 UMAC).

Saints first baseman #Sean Claugherty# (Sr.- Oakdale, Minn./Tartan) extended his hitting streak to 26 games, putting him second all-time in program history; he is now only behind assistant coach Justin Harriman's record of 42 consecutive games. Claugherty kept the streak alive in the final at-bat of the afternoon, when he ripped a double into the left-center alley, scoring #Kyle Jensen# (Fr.- Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake). Jensen had doubled earlier in the inning, scoring #Joe Link# (Jr.- Woodbury, Minn.).

Saints bats were out early, with a five-run second inning on top of a three-run first. In the second, Link singled up the middle, scoring shortstop #Andy Manos# (Jr.- White Bear Lake, Minn.). #Brian Peterson# (Jr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Hill-Murray) crossed home on an RBI-groundout by #Brian Marshik# (Jr.- Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View). #Catcher Kyle Moody (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS )# (So.- Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) connected on a two-run double to right field, pushing across #Steve Gerten# (Sr.- West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley) and #Scott Greening# (Jr.-Antigo, Wis./Mesabi CC).

Link had a hot day at the plate for the Saints, going four-for-five, with a single, a pair of doubles, and a triple. His single was part of the five-run Saints second.

#Jeff Adams# (Sr.-Two Harbors, Minn.) earned the win on the mound for the Saints. He pitched four innings, giving up one Cougar hit and striking out five. #David Barningham# (Jr. Bayfield, Wis./Washburn) and #Josh Retka# (Jr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) appeared in relief for Adams, combining for only two Cougar hits.

The Saints will play Northwestern College in a make-up game on Tuesday in St. Paul. It will be one, nine inning game starting at 4 p.m.
