DULUTH, Minn. – The ninth-ranked St. Scholastica baseball team disposed of the University of Minnesota-Morris in a doubleheader on Friday night, winning game one 6-1 and game two 19-0.
The Saints improve to 28-3 overall and 13-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). CSS has won 21 straight games, which ties the second-longest streak in program history set just last season. The Cougars fall to 12-17 overall and 5-8 in the league.
In game one, the Saints would manage just five hits, which is their lowest output since March 19th. However, CSS would score six runs off of those five hits.
The Cougars struck first on the night, plating a run in the top of the first. The Saints responded in the bottom half as #Sean Claugherty# (

Gerten improved to 8-0 on the season as he struck out four in four innings. #David Vogelgesang# (
Fr.-Hastings, Minn.) pitched a perfect three innings, earning his second save of the season. Five different Saints had hits.
Game two was different story as CSS put the game away early scoring eight in the first inning to win going away 19-0.
Four of the eight runs in the bottom of the first came off the bat of #Chad Peterson# (
Jr.-New Brighton, Minn./St. Anthony Village) as he hit a grand slam over the left field wall. Peterson then drove in two more in the bottom of the second to finish with a career-high six RBIs in the game.
With the score 11-0 entering the third inning, the Saints tacked on seven more runs. Claugherty had a two-run single in the inning to extend his hitting streak to 25 games, which ties Scott Turner (1994), for the second-longest streak in program history. #Kyle Jensen# (
Fr.-Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake) also had his first collegiate hit in the inning with a two-run double.
CSS added one more run in the fourth to make the final score 19-0. The Saints played 25 players in the contest. #Tanner Viola# (
